Stainless Steel Cold Storage Swing Doors

Barrier-free passage in industrial corridors where fast movement is paramount. A massive, semi-insulated structure specifically designed for hand truck impacts and the continuous stress of opening and closing. It operates with a spring-loaded, self-closing hinge, so the door returns to its default position after every passage, helping to keep the temperature of refrigerated spaces stable.

Traffic Engineering

Hands-free passage

We design stainless steel swing doors (also known as "flip-flap doors") for high-traffic industrial areas. The leaves can be opened 90° in both directions, and then the spring hinges automatically pull them back to the center position, so the door always "closes by itself".

Hold-open function: At 90° opening, the door leaf catches and stays open (for ventilation, loading).

Where do we recommend it? In processing plants, kitchens, and corridors where staff often work with their hands full or move with hand trucks.

Durability

Designed for impacts

The swing door is the only door type opened with the "body" or a cart. Therefore, we make the structure extremely resistant.

Brushed surface

The door leaf is made of brushed stainless steel. This is not only aesthetic but also practical: minor scratches and fingerprints from everyday use are much less visible than on a smooth, glossy surface.

Aesthetic and durable

Massive hinges

Equipped with special, maintenance-free plastic/composite or full stainless steel hinges that hold stably even under heavy use. The hinges have a "catch point" (hold-open) at 90°, so the door can be fixed open for ventilation or loading.

Versions

Which version should you choose?

Single-leaf swing door
Single-leaf swing door

For personnel traffic, max. 1300 mm wide openings. Ideal for the quick separation of smaller refrigerated spaces, preparation rooms, and industrial corridors.

Double-leaf swing door
Double-leaf swing door

For hand truck and palletized material handling. Can be ordered with symmetrical or asymmetrical leaves, adapted to the traffic.

Polyethylene swing door
PE (Plastic) swing door

Alternative solution: from a 15 mm thick solid polyethylene sheet, for extreme mechanical stress (e.g., slaughterhouses, pens).

Specification

Technical content

Door leaf

40 mm thick panel with double-sided stainless steel cladding and polyurethane foam filling (semi-insulated). Lightweight yet sturdy structure for fast passage.

Window

A viewing window is standard equipment to avoid collisions with oncoming traffic. Its material is unbreakable polycarbonate or safety glass in an EPDM rubber frame.

Sealing

An anti-pinch protective rubber runs along the edges of the door leaf. This is not for hermetic sealing (like on cold storage doors), but supports safe, impact-resistant use.

Collision protection

We recommend white plastic/polyethylene bumper strips glued to the bottom part of the door leaf (or at hand height). These protect the surface from mechanical damage and effectively absorb the impacts of hand trucks.

From an expert's point of view

Why is a swing door essential?

In the food and industrial environment, the key to efficiency is fast material handling. Our swing doors are designed to minimize passage time while providing reliable space separation between different hygiene zones. The massive construction and quality material usage guarantee that they will reliably serve everyday operations for many years, even under the toughest industrial conditions.

Information

Frequently asked questions about swing doors

Is the swing door lockable?

Normally not, since its function is fast, barrier-free passage. However, upon special request, a latch or lock can be installed if the usage environment justifies it. In this case, it is worth considering that the added lockability should not unnecessarily slow down the daily workflow.

Can the door be stopped open?

Yes, the design of the hinges is such that at 90 degrees of opening, the door leaf catches, i.e., stays open. This is particularly useful during ventilation, cleaning, or when moving larger equipment or carts.

Does a swing door insulate properly?

The swing door is a semi-insulated solution, meaning it is not made for hermetic sealing like a classic cold storage hinged or sliding door. It is primarily ideal where fast passage and durability are more important than full airtightness. It is excellent for separating refrigerated industrial spaces, but we generally recommend a different door type for deep-freeze spaces.

Can it be used safely with hand trucks?

Yes, we specifically design it for such an environment. One of the greatest advantages of swing doors is that they can be easily opened hands-free, with the body or a hand truck. With proper collision protection and a reinforced design, they can easily withstand intensive daily material handling.

What sizes can it be made in?

We manufacture swing doors to custom sizes, based on the opening size and the nature of the traffic. They can be made in a single-leaf or double-leaf version, depending on whether it is for personnel traffic, hand truck material handling, or the passage of larger equipment.

Can it be requested with a viewing window?

Yes, in fact, this is one of the most important safety features. The viewing window helps avoid collisions with oncoming traffic, especially in places where movement is continuous and fast. The material of the window can be polycarbonate or safety glass as required.

How resistant is it during daily use?

Very much so. We develop swing doors specifically for intensive industrial use, so their structure resists frequent opening and closing, minor collisions, and humid, refrigerated environments. With the right choice of materials and bumper protection, they provide a reliable solution in the long run.

Is it a cleanable and hygienic solution?

Yes, stainless steel surfaces are exceptionally easy to clean, making the swing door an excellent choice for food industry and hygienically sensitive environments. The smooth, durable surfaces support regular cleaning and the maintenance of a clean working environment.

Is it suitable for outdoors?

It is fundamentally recommended for indoor, industrial space separation. It can be used in covered, protected areas, but for outdoor use exposed to direct weather loads, a different design is generally recommended. If outdoor or semi-outdoor installation is the goal, it is worth discussing the exact circumstances separately.

Where is it most recommended?

Primarily for food processing plants, processing areas, kitchens, preparation rooms, refrigerated corridors, and any industrial passage with fast, continuous traffic. It works best where the door must be passed through frequently and users often do not have free hands.
