Stainless Steel Cold Storage Hinged Doors
Hermetic closing with 60–100 mm PU insulation, designed for industrial use. Ideal for personnel traffic, hand truck material handling, and cold rooms where reliable sealing is paramount.
- EPDM seal: all-around, stable airtightness – lower energy loss and less icing.
- Rising hinges: lifts the door leaf upon opening, thus protecting the bottom rubber seal.
- Industrial stainless steel design: standard material quality WNr. 1.4301 (WNr. 1.4404 upon request).
The most common choice for cold rooms
Cold storage hinged doors are the standard solution in any refrigerated space where there is no need for forklift traffic, or where space constraints prevent the installation of a sliding door.
Advantages: Perfect airtight sealing thanks to the EPDM rubbers and the wrap-around frame. Can be opened with one hand, and can also be ordered with automatic closing.
What makes a cold storage door work well?
Unlike traditional doors, the protection of the seal is the most important aspect here.
Rising hinge system
When opening, the door leaf automatically rises (approx. 10–15 mm). This protects the bottom rubber seal: it does not scrub the floor, but when closed, it presses perfectly against the sealing plane.
Protects the sealEmergency release lock
All our cold storage doors are manufactured with an emergency release function on the inside, so they can be opened immediately, without a key, even in the event of accidental lock-in. This is a fundamental occupational safety requirement in a cold storage environment.
Safety from the insideIn what versions do we manufacture it?
The most common and economical design for personnel traffic. It is made with a panel thickness of 40–60 mm (space divider) or 80 mm (normal cooler), and the clear opening size can be designed from approx. 300 mm up to 1350 mm in width.
Ideal for wider material handling and larger openings. The secondary leaf can be fixed with a locking bolt (internal or external mounting), making daily use comfortable even with one leaf. Can be manufactured up to 2750 mm in width.
Recommended for plants where an overhead track system, suspended rail, or technological fitting runs above the opening. A special frame and top design ensure the necessary passage, while the closing and insulation of the door remain stably intact.
Detailed technical content
Door leaf structure
Double-sided stainless steel cladding in WNr. 1.4301 material quality, with a decorative brushed finish. The inner core is high-density, injected polyurethane foam (approx. 40 kg/m³), which simultaneously provides rigidity and excellent thermal insulation. Typical panel thickness: 40–60 mm (space divider), 80–100 mm (normal cooler), over 120 mm (freezer).
Frame structure
Stainless steel frame, which, adapting to the receiving structure, can be made in a built-in (installed in the opening) or surface-mounted (fixed to the external wall plane) version. The design aims for stable mounting, hygienic connection, and a precise closing geometry in the long run.
Sealing (Rubber)
Cold-tolerant EPDM rubber seal that remains flexible down to -25°C, so it does not crack or harden. The profile design ensures a stable, wrap-around airtight seal even with a low closing force, which is key to low energy consumption.
Options
Can be requested with a viewing window (with insulated glazing), automatic door closer, collision protection band (cart bumper), electric lock for access control systems, as well as stainless steel threshold and edge protection design.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum size?
For a single-leaf hinged door, the typical maximum clear opening width is 1350 mm, and in a double-leaf version, it can be up to 2750 mm. If a larger opening needs to be covered, a sliding door is recommended, because its handling is easier, and it operates stably even with high traffic.
Is a threshold needed for the door?
For cold rooms (above 0°C), it is generally not necessary. In this case, a special seal at the bottom of the door closes against the floor. In a freezer space, however, a recessed (and if necessary, heated) threshold is recommended to avoid icing.
Can it be ordered with a viewing window?
Yes, cold storage hinged doors can also be requested with an insulated viewing window. This is especially useful in places where visibility of traffic on the other side is important, or where, for safety reasons, it is necessary to see what is happening on the other side. The glazing is not only practical but also aids in the hygienic use of the door.
For what temperature range is it recommended?
Standard cold storage hinged doors are typically made for refrigerated spaces between 0°C and +10°C. If the door is placed in a lower environment, such as a deep-freeze environment, then a thicker panel, special sealing, and, where appropriate, a heated threshold or heated frame system are required.
